February 13, 2023: Art Intelligence Global is delighted to present GERHARD RICHTER: ABSTRAKTE BILDER from March 18 to April 28, 2023 in our Hong Kong headquarters. Featuring seminal works from Richter’s renowned abstract canon from prominent international collections, GERHARD RICHTER: ABSTRAKTE BILDER will be the first Gerhard Richter exhibition ever to be held in Hong Kong.
Highlights include Gelbgrün (Yellow-Green) from 1982, a landmark piece that made its debut in documenta 7 the same year of its creation, marking the beginning of Richter’s ground-breaking abstract aesthetic. The panoramic work ranks among the largest works ever created by the artist. Another important highlight is Abstraktes Bild 809-4 from 1994, one of Richter’s most iconic masterpieces. Formerly in the collection of legendary guitarist Eric Clapton, Abstraktes Bild 809-4 possesses a visual authority of the highest caliber within Richter’s oeuvre. The work is one of a series of four paintings from the mid-1990s, three of which were sold to Clapton in 2001, and the fourth owned by the joint collection of the Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland.
Born in Dresden, Germany, in 1932, Gerhard Richter is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of our generation. Within his vast, varied, and highly accomplished body of work spanning the Photo Paintings, Gray Paintings, Color Charts, Landscapes and Seascapes, amongst others, Richter’s illustrious Abstrakte Bilder constitute an epoch-defining chapter in the history of abstract art. The culmination of the manifold of lines of artistic enquiry he has pursued throughout his career, Richter’s Abstrakte Bilder interrogate the nature of perception, the limits of representation, and the question of art-making in the age of photography and the digitalized image.
